Samburu national reserve ecosystem comprises of a mixture of acacia, grassland vegetation, thorn trees and riverine forest. It’s a peaceful and serene park, attracting animals mainly because of the Ewaso Ng’iro River (meaning brown water) that runs across the park and empties into the renowned Lorian Swamp. Buffalo Springs National Reserve is right next to Samburu national reserve, on the other side of Ewaso Ng’iro River.
There are quite a number of attractions that you will encounter on a luxury holiday to Samburu Park. There are two visible mountains inside the park: Ololokwe and Koitogor which make for a good photography experience. The reserve is home to some 450 bird species, among which 5 species are reported to be vulnerable: Yellow-billed Ox-pecker, Great Egret, African Darter, Martial Eagle and White-headed Vulture. An interesting activity tourists can indulge in aside from game viewing is hiking up the Koitogor hill which offers panoramic views of the reserve and one can also spot numerous primates.
Another rather intriguing activity is a visit to the local Samburu village where you can meet and learn about the Samburu community’s culture and lifestyle. The Samburu are a nomadic, herding tribe just like the Maasai and they are both related. A visit to Samburu is complete when you get to learn about the local community and their lifestyle.
