Tour overview
The Elephant Orphanage is part of the Nairobi National Park and is open to the public between 11am and noon, only one hour in a day. Between this time you will have a chance to see the small baby elephants’ carers hand-feed the elephants with milk bottles. The elephants will afterwards be playing around in the soil and enjoying mud baths. There will be one of the keepers who will educate the crowd about the history of the project as well as talk more about the elephants.
After the elephant tour, head on to the giraffe center, which is one of Nairobi’s celebrated attractions. The center was initially set up as a breeding program for the Rothschild’s giraffe, an endangered giraffe sub-species. There is a raised observation deck above the animal’s enclosure where visitors have a chance to hand feed these large creatures as well as to pet them. The 1.5 kilometer nature trail through the adjacent wildlife sanctuary is also worth exploring. After the excursion, your guide will take you back to your hotel/residence in Nairobi marking the end of the tour.
